When people think “West Coast weekend,” the same favourites always seem to grab the spotlight – Langebaan, Darling, Yzerfontein, Paternoster. And yes, they’re beautiful. But tucked quietly along the Berg River is Port Owen in Velddrift, and honestly… this little marina village might be the real hidden gem of the West Coast.
This was my second visit, and once again Port Owen worked its magic. The vibe is unassuming and peaceful, with birdlife everywhere and long, quiet walks along the water. It’s the kind of place that invites you to breathe a little deeper.
